Drury Football Team Win The Mountain League

This year has been another successful one for the Drury football team. Thanks to five spectacular wins we won our group in the Mountain League and then went on to win the overall Mountain League final for the second year in a row. We have now qualified for Hardwick shield final which will take place at Ysgol Bryn Coch.

Our journey this season started way back when we travelled to Rhos Helyg and came away with a spectacular 7-1 win, Niall Griffiths contributing with a brilliant hat trick. Our next games were as part of a tournament where we managed to beat Ysgol Owen Jones, Northop Hall and Ysgol Y Waun in close matches. Highlights included Ollie Hughes last minute winner and a stunning last ditch goal saving tackle from Jamie Arnold. Our final match as part of the group stage saw us take on Sychdyn at home. We ran out 5-0 winners, which despite the score line proved to be a difficult game.

Our next challenge would be a tournament in Ysgol Derwenfa in Leeswood. There we would face Abermorddu and Nercwys who were the winners from the two other Mountain Leagues. We made a great start with a 7-0 victory against Nercwys, this scoreline was matched by Abermorddu which meant that the last game would be a decider with a penalty shootout being a real possibility. Fortunately after an exhilarating, back and forth, encounter the game was decided deep into extra time with Niall Griffiths scoring the all important winner. This means that for the second year running the team has qualified for the Hardwick shield final and will take on the top four schools from across Flintshire.

The more we learn, the more we know. Ysgol Drury is a great place to grow!🌳
